Vex IQ Robotics Competition

Both 5th classes participated in the Vex IQ Robotics competition in CIT on Friday, 6th February. This venture was brought to us by EMC and the Lifetime Lab.
The event created a real buzz with almost 600 primary pupils participating.
The pupils of both classes are extremely proud of themselves. This was the first time an event such as this took place for Primary pupils in Ireland.
One of the coding teams came 3rd in their competition. They had the task of coding the Robot 'Toby', to perform a task autonomously!
A drive team got through to the finals of the Highrise Challenge with 'Scooter'.
We had 2 STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) teams who had to research an Engineering challenge and present their findings to a panel of judges. Their projects were entitled 'Ballinora National School Sewage Investigation and Solution' and 'The Engineering behind Cranes'. The pupils involved in 'The Engineering Behind Cranes' won their competition.
It was a wonderful experience with the children learning so many skills, including organisational and team work skills, that will no doubt stand to them in their future endeavours.
Well done to the pupils of both classes!
